Aircraft Altitude
The aircraft altitude was previously measured by the use of the pressure altimeter that was the calibrated barometer. The altimeter checked the aircraft altitude in terms of the air pressure the value of which decreased with the increasing altitude. After calculating the pressure, it displays the value of corresponding altitude. In order to display the aircraft altitude above sea level, the pilot is required to recalibrate the altimeter according to the local air pressure at sea level and then he was expected to take into account the natural variation of the pressure over time and in different regions.
If the aircraft altitude is not measured by the recalibrating the altimeter then the two aircraft flying at the same altitude may suffer from miscommunication about the heights and hence it may lead to the aircraft accidents. Therefore, the steps must be carefully followed while measuring the aircraft altitude. The altitudes are defined on the basis of the standard pressure that helps in the removal of the confusion regarding the flight levels.
The aircraft altitude is described by the number that is regarded as the nominal altitude in feet that gets divided by 100. The flight level standardization in terms of pressure expresses the actual aircraft altitude and all the other aspects are determined by the same system of measurement. The aircraft altitude needs to be measured with full attention in order to avoid any accident and ensure safety.
There is another term that may be considered when it comes to the aircraft altitude and that is the transition altitude. It is considered to be the height at which the aircraft changes from the use of altitude to the user of flight levels.
In order to avoid any type of accident, it becomes necessary to measure the altitude on the basis of standardized system of measurement that can ultimately ensure safety to the passengers.
